“The Looking Forward-Glancing Back” Exhibition Chair, Beth Scher, is among the impressive artists whose work will be exhibited. Her powerful embroidered portraits of female soldiers appeared as a Cover Story in the Huffington Post. Denise Philipbar, the Juror for the show, is an artist, critic and curator living in the Washington DC metro area, who holds an MFA in painting from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
In addition to this excellent exhibition, NAWA’s Scholarship Fundraiser is being held during the Opening Reception. Artist Cynthia Maronet is delighted to be coordinating NAWA Florida’s second 6 x 6 Project that celebrates members’ talent and the extraordinary Scholarship Program. Artist members create paintings, collages, or mixed media works on 6” x 6” canvases, which go on sale for $50 each.
These artworks donated by the artists are an investment in the lives of young female artists. The Scholarship Committee selects three young women from the 2015 graduating class of the Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach. Each will receive a $2000 scholarship and the opportunity to have their work exhibited at the Armory during the “Looking Forward‐Glancing Back” Exhibition.
Established in 1889, NAWA is the oldest professional women’s fine arts group in the United States. Founded in New York City, the not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization fosters public awareness and empowers, supports, and encourages women artists. The Florida Chapter of NAWA was the first regional chapter in the country. All artists wishing to join the Florida Chapter must first be juried into the Association Headquarters in New York City.
NAWA welcomes applications from professional women artists as well as emerging and student artists who are U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents, 18 years of age or older. To learn more about this prestigious organization visit www.nawafl.com, and please attend the Armory reception on March 13th.
