There will be a reception at Wellington Whole Foods Gallery on Friday, February 20, 2015  from 6:30-8 PM for well known local artist Emmanuel Gonzalez, a member of the Wellington Art Society. The event is co-hosted by Whole Foods  and WAS with live music, delicious appetizers and wine. Emmanuel explores the past and the present through realism and portraiture depicting American icons that are influential, recognizable images. Some are relevant to specific ethnic and social groups and viewers will experience these images differently, depending on their emotional and social perceptions. The Whole Foods Market on SR7 in Wellington has a large cafe, lined with windows which offer nice natural lighting. It’s a perfect setting to display art and Wellington Art Society is pleased to partner with Whole Foods to bring this show to the community. Whole Foods will provide music, hot and cold appetizers, and drinks. A five-dollar donation is requested which goes to benefit the art society’s scholarship fund. Emmanuel Gonzales has had a strong presence in the in the south Florida art scene since his graduation from Palm Beach Atlantic College in 2001. He has a bold and edgy style fusing together collage, pencil, pastel and oils to create strong imagery that consistently makes a statement. His work has been seen in various juried shows and galleries in Palm Beach County and Orlando. Most recently he has displayed at the Voight Gallery on Palm Beach Island, OSGS Gallery in Northwood, and currently at the Brewhouse Gallery displaying quite a few examples of his work. 

 

 

 

 

 

Emmanuel explores the past and present through realism and portraiture. His body of work includes a growing retrospective of American icons, where each piece is presented as a fragment in a larger American patchwork. He tells The Rickie Report, “Individually, my subjects attempt to characterize the social climate at a given moment in history. They are influential, recognizable images; relevant within specific ethnic and social groups. Some subjects are foreign to others outside of a particular group or generation. Just as one group identifies emotionally with a particular image through a shared social lens, outsiders will experience these images differently. The “recognition factor” of my subjects reaffirms the identity and unique cultural perspective of a specific group while simultaneously establishing an ”otherness” in viewers outside of a given group. I use pencil, pastels, oil, and watercolor to create movement and energy to bring intimacy to large-scale pieces with an attention to subtleties often refined through detailed pencil work”.

 

 

 

 

The pop-up show “Continuum” in downtown West Palm Beach displayed a variety of his paintings during ArtPalmBeach/Art Synergy2014. Most notably, his “Keys to the Cities” piano project entitled “Waiting in Vain” graced passersby with impromptu concerts in downtown Lake Worth. Emmanuel also participated in Orlando’s “Rock the Box” where he was selected to paint a newspaper box for the Orlando weekly. Catch a glimpse of Emmanuel’s work at the Boynton Beach Arts District where he showcases some of his murals. Most recently, Emmanuel was honored by being commissioned to paint Florida State Senator Marco Rubio’s portrait to grace the Senator’s Washington office.

Beside his commission for Senator Marco Rubio, Emmanuel has been commissioned to create a 27 x 4 foot mural at the W. Palm Beach Fire Department, Station 1. He also designed the website for author Helen Rosburg, www.helenrosburg.com and Illustrated “This Is The Book of Arabesque” for author Helen Rosburg.  Emmanuel created the Cover art for Gary Davis’ film “The Nubian Vampire” and Poster and brochure for Gary Davis film “she is a spy too?”.  His work can be found in numerous Private Collections including: The Chesterfield Hotel, (Palm Beach,FL), Friars Club, New York, (N.Y.), Jim Towey, Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, Palm Beach Collector, Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA), Helen Rosberg (Wrigley Heir).  Emmanuel’s concern with the welfare of the general community is shown through his Donations of artwork to worthy non-profit organizations.

Founded in 1981, The Wellington Art Society is open to artists of all mediums and patrons of the arts, providing both local and regional artists the platform to share their work, learn more about their craft and serve the community through their art.
