South Florida Basket and Fiber Guild Invites You to Next Meeting

The South Florida Basket and Fiber Guild was formed in January 2013 by a dozen enthusiastic fiber artists from Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Our purpose is to provide educational and promotional opportunities for members, both individually and as a group. We welcome all fiber artists who have a common interest in creating baskets, vessels and other woven creations to collaborate in an environment of camaraderie and fellowship. Our guild is open to weavers at all levels to share their art.  We are affiliated with the Florida Tropical Weavers Guild and the National Basketry Organization.

We are fiber artists and enthusiasts from around South Florida who share diverse, but allied interests including basketry, weaving, knitting, crochet, needlework, felting and beading. By coming together as a guild, we hope to inspire interest and creativity in basketry and the fiber arts among both emerging and seasoned artists through networking, educational programs and exhibitions.

Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach. Informal meetings or weave-ins may be held during the summer months. Meeting details including topics/speakers and directions are listed in the news and events section, our newsletter and posted on our Facebook page.

Leora tells The Rickie Report, “These abstract constructions are based on my observations of forms and structures found in nature. Layers are the focus of my work in several ways: as components of physical structure, as elements of process, and as metaphor for constant change and growth. The materials are natural fibers, hand-made papers, bamboo reeds, metal wires, glass beads and other found objects. I manipulate these materials using a variety of techniques to construct the pieces, which I refer to as “Landscape Structures.”
