Artist Trading Cards (ATC) are small cards or miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball trading cards. They are 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches, small enough to fit inside a standard card-collector’s pocket.
The ATC movement developed out of the Mail Art movement and had its origins in Switzerland. People across the continents are sharing and trading their art in this form. ATCs make art accessible to those who appreciate art but may not be able to afford it. The act of creating and swapping artist trading cards is an exciting way to share your art, connect with other artist and collect art.
Cards are produced in various media, included dry media, (colored pencils, pins, markers, etc.); wet media (water color, acrylic, oils or mixed) and paper media (in the form of collage, paper cuts, found object etc.) or even fiber or metal.
The cards are either traded or exchanged. When sold they are called Art Card Edition and Originals (ACEOs).
