The Fish House is also home to where you can sip your favorite beverage and hear live music overlooking the beautiful Manatee Pocket.  The resident artists work in their studios year round. Most artists are available Tuesday- Saturday and beginning Friday, November 7th all the studios and Gallery will be open on Friday Nights until 9:00 pm. The public is welcome to watch them work and purchase their creations. The Fish House Art Center is located on the site of one of the last operating commercial fish houses on Florida’s east coast on the scenic Manatee Pocket waterfront in the historic fishing village of Port Salerno, Florida, just 5 miles south of downtown Stuart. It sits at the end of Salerno Road, east of Dixie Highway (A1A).

Diane Concepcion

Port Salerno Mosaic Studio

 

Diane dabbled in various creative arts but was most drawn to the medium of mosaic more than anything else.  She loves the idea of taking many pieces and making them one and began as a self-taught hobby while working and raising her family.  Upon retiring, Diane spent a year studying mosaic at the Union Square Art Cooperative in Union Square Park, NYC, moved to Florida and launched her mosaic studio at the Fish House in 2013. Diane just returned from the Institute of Mosaic Art, Berkeley, California and never misses an opportunity to enhance her skills. With mosaic, techniques are key – once the process is conquered, the art emerges. She runs the Port Salerno Mosaic Studio at the Fish House Art Center and sells mosaic art, takes commissions and gives classes. You will find wall art, stepping stones, house numbers, flower pots and table tops for sale. She uses glass or ceramic tile, stained glass, china and repurposed or ‘found’ items. She is offering ‘Intro to Mosaic’ classes. Students can also learn Picassiette (broken china), Smalti, or techniques for exterior applications (such as garden art). Once an ‘Intro’ class is complete, students are invited to drop in during studio hours to work on their Mosaic masterpieces at their individual pace.

Billy Selesnick

 

William Selesnick is a renowned artist, cinematographer, author and world traveler who studied under master artists in Paris. He has had studios in New York City, New Hope, PA, Key West and Woodstock, NY. Completing his Key West Series after a seven year residency on the island, Billy relocated his studio to Palm Beach, Florida and then to The Fish House Art Center in Port Salerno. His eclectic art, including murals, oil paintings and pastels are displayed in homes, galleries and establishments around the world. His 40 years of work encompasses images inspired by journeys to Negril, Jamaica, Rio de Janeiro, France, Israel and Egypt. Selesnick’s output ranges from prestigious murals to commissions creating Trompe L’oeil Interiors. He also wrote and directed a number of successful documentaries that have been acquired by PBS. Wherever Billy has lived, his art has left an indelible mark on the community.

Elizabeth Esther Kelly

Weaving & Mixed Media Artist

Life long multi media artist Elizabeth Esther Kelly is weaving beautiful scarves and wraps on a four harness wooden loom, and the process is fascinating and fun to watch. Elizabeth views the art of weaving as the perfect metaphor to demonstrate the interconnectedness of life and the cultivation of compassion through artistic expression. Author, illustrator, designer, painting & textile restorer, Elizabeth’s passion for her work extends to the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Tibetans: nomadic people of the Himalayan region whose lives fully integrated many art forms, among them weaving.

Raida Disbrow- Havana Beads

Lampwork Glass Artist & Jewelry Designer

Raida Disbrow is a full time Lampwork (Glass) Artist, and owner of Havana Beads, LLC. She began lampworking in 2005 when she couldn’t find specific colors and designs for her artisan jewelry work. Lampworking is the process of melting glass rods with a torch and creating on a mandrel small works of art. These pieces are decorated with thinner stringer pieces of glass and when completed are kiln annealed for strength and durability. Raida has a great love for nature and therefore frequently incorporates elements in her beads and Artisan Jewelry.

Sally Eckman Roberts

Sally Eckman Roberts is one of the most prolific and successful artist/designers working today in the creation and development of new products for the gift and home decor industries.  Combining her knowledge of design and her talents as an illustrator, Sally creates beautifully detailed images depicting nature in a traditional manner with a contemporary feel. Using watercolor and pencil, and through her delicate blending of rich color, intricate patterns and distinctive borders, Sally’s designs reveal art and nature are one. While her inspiration comes from nature and natural objects, her look is current and trend driven.

 

Sally’s interest in art began as a child growing up in Indiana. After completing her BFA in painting from Miami University in Ohio, Sally gained commercial experience as an illustrator and creative director in design and corporate marketing in Indianapolis. After having two children, and wanting to go out on her own, she created the licensing and marketing division of her own business, Painted Pears.

“Art and Creativity have been woven into my life from early childhood. My mother and I would make projects together that were of a practical nature but also fun and creative. This practical aspect continued as we raised four children and encouraged their interests. My art has most often involved fabric and fiber with clothing, quilting, weaving and the needle arts. Recently, I have turned to silk because of its variety of weaves and the rich colors of the dyes. Suzanne Connors- Aya Fiber Studio

 

“I call myself a fiber artist. I love art and I have always enjoyed making art. I have tried many different mediums but always return to fiber and textile art. I am a seamstress and a designer and I have always been intrigued by textiles; and especially if the fiber has a beautiful texture that makes you want to reach out and touch it! I love layering color and combining different tactile fibers.”
The Aya Fiber Studio is a working fiber studio that produces hand dyed indigo shibori fabrics that are made into art-to-wear and home fashion items. The studio offers workshops in shibori, indigo and marbling techniques.
