Dr. Marvin Mordes died unexpectedly on September 18, 2014 while traveling in Europe with his devoted wife of 47 years, Elayne. For 26 years, Marvin was Chief of Neurology at St. Joseph’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Upon moving to South Florida, he cared for patients at Cleveland Clinic Florida for five years before setting up his practice on the MorseLife campus in West Palm Beach. Marvin received his medical degree from the University of Ghent in Belgium and completed his residency in Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania.

Marvin will be remembered as a passionate, caring and distinguished physician, a patron of the arts and a global citizen. Known fondly as a true renaissance man, he was an avid collector of contemporary art and devoted supporter of artists, donating many works to museums of regional and national prominence. He was on the Board of Directors of the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC, where he sponsored The Mordes Lecture of Contemporary Art for 11 years. He was co-founder with his wife Elayne of Whitespace Collection, a private contemporary art exhibition space in West Palm Beach.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elayne (Rubenstein), daughter Stephanie Ives, son-in-law Matthew Ives, and grandchildren Jared and Martine Hamilton, and was the dear brother-in-law of Marcy (Rubenstein) and Larry Friedman, and Marc Rubenstein.

Services were held at SOL LEVINSON & BROS., INC., in Baltimore, MD.
