Melinda Moore Presents “Wings of Inspiration”

Fine Art Photographer Melinda Moore will present “Wings of Inspiration” at the monthly meeting of the Audubon Society of the Everglades on Tuesday, March 4th.  The public is welcome to this FREE event.  The Rickie Report urges you to make the time to attend.  Melinda is a recent inductee to the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA).  Her  ability to capture the light as well as the essence of that fleeting moment of a bird taking flight is awe inspiring.  We share the details in this article.

Melinda Moore tells us, “Light is the essence of spirit in its purest form, so it is a key ingredient in my art. A fleeting expression, a bird taking wing, clouds and sea; everything is transient and everything is permanent when captured by the camera. My desire is to bring a soulfulness and spirit to my work that engages the viewer, creating an emotional bond with the environment and its creatures.  I think I am blessed by these birds… the way they do turn up and strike poses”.

Melinda was born in New Jersey, and arrived in Delray Beach Florida in 1948. Much of Delray was still dirt roads including 11th Street when her family first moved there. I-95 didn’t exist until Melinda was in high school. Living on Lake Ida, which at the time, was the edge of the Everglades gave her a unique opportunity to explore nature. Observation and her love of birds began back then, when Florida was a different place.

She says, “I was introduced to John James Audubon’s work by a book my mother gave me in 1950’s. I do feel it inspires my work today. My Mom also loved birds and kept a little book published in 1915 which I still treasure. She wrote the dates she spotted new birds. She also introduced the Audubon organization by encouraging me to call them to ID unusual birds we spotted”.

I returned to Florida and married my high school sweetheart in 2003 and began her photographic career late in life, about 2008,” she shares.  Melinda began exhibiting her work in 2008 and has had three solo exhibits, receiving many awards. Recently  she was invited to join the National Association of Women Artists.
