Submissions

Please fill out the application form and submit it by either USPS mail or by e-mail. If by mail, include photos of your work labeled on the back with your name and the title of the work. Send your filled-in application to Friends of Okeeheelee Nature Center, 7715 Forest Hill Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33413. If by e-mail, submit the completed form with jpegs no larger than 1MB each to  mailto:okeeheeleefriends@gmail.com

and mail a check to the above address. Jpeg filenames should include your last name and the title of the work, e.g JonesAtalaButterfly.jpeg.

Up to 3 works may be submitted for consideration. Fees are $15 for one item, $20 for two or $25 for three. Acceptable work includes 2D (framed, no glass or edge-finished, and wired for hanging) and 3D art (artist-provided stands, if required). Acceptable mediums include photography, painting, fabric art, sculpture, ceramics, wood, metalwork, etc. Space for 3D art is limited. Maximum size of 2D work is 30” wide by 40” high.

Subject matter must feature Florida native/winter-residing flora and fauna or scenes of pristine areas of Florida, e.g. state and county parks and marine reserves.

Fauna may include, but not be limited to mammals, reptiles, butterflies, birds, freshwater and ocean creatures. Flora may include any plants, trees and flowers native to Florida. There are a number of sources online to help you determine suitable subject matter. Works may include abstract or impressionistic elements, but subject matter must be clearly identifiable as Florida native/winter-residing.

Works submitted must be yours alone and not a copy of others’ work, regardless of source or permission to use. Submissions not following the above guidelines will be rejected. Work that is judged too heavy or fragile to hang or set up may be excluded at the time of delivery. If accepted, notification of acceptance will be mailed no later than September 23. Otherwise, your application and images will be returned. Of necessity, space available and the number of works submitted will determine acceptances. The jurors’ decision is final.
