speaker

Feza Madenli Aktan

Feza tells us, “I was born in Istanbul, Turkey and have been living in South Florida for 28 years. Growing up, I never missed an opportunity to visit a museum, gallery, opera or play. This early interest in the arts allowed me to come to the realization that the arts and culture are two intertwined forces, working to enrich the human spirit. It became very apparent early on how art was my calling in life. I studied ceramics in the prestigious Florence Art Academy and after graduating, I returned to Istanbul and worked as a ceramic designer in a factory, creating commercial and artistic ceramics and participating in exhibitions with other artists.”

“Here in the United States, I have  worked with and participated in many art shows with the FAU Potter’s Guild. Photography also fascinates me. As an artist, I believe I have been trained to have a keen eye for artistic ‘Kodak moments.’ Along with my interest in photography, water media intrigues me and I have recently undertaken a new project, combining the two art forms,” Feza says.

She goes on to say, “I am happy to be affiliated with Artserve and be part of this great art community in South Florida. My love for clay inspires me to create ceramics that are especially unique and functional art forms. I am amazed by how different kinds of mediums can become art in trained, skilled and creative hands. Everything we hear, feel, see and think inspires and influences us in life in a variety of ways. For me, working with this medium allows me to express myself in the most direct way; transferring all of my thoughts into the malleable block of clay. The plasticity of clay grants me the opportunity to be able to create sculptures, and utilitarian or decorative objects of art.”

A member of the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA), Salup has won awards for her contributions to their national exhibits.

Using acrylic, watercolor, and pastels on canvas and paper, Salup creates a world that vibrates with bold colors and bright light paired with brushstrokes that evoke a strong sense of movement and energy.  Her paintings begin with a theme of nature, but invariably evolve into an imaginative creation that invites interpretation from the audience.  While many artists choose to paint in only one genre, Karen’s work is influenced by all styles and runs the gamut from Impressionism to Deconstructionist to Abstract Expressionism.

Recording Secretary: Lee Krull

Krull_Lee_Drifting_18x24_SM
Lee Krull was born in Cleveland, Ohio to a family that included several generations of artists who left their legacy of art to her. Her talent and love for art was apparent at a young age.  At age 14, Lee embarked on what was to become a commercial art career.  Her only formal art training was the courses offered during her junior and senior high school years, though she emerged the recipient of numerous art awards in regional and national competitions. Self taught, she showed her sketches locally. While raising a family, Lee began building her free-lance commercial art business and painted commissions.  Starting locally, her expertise led to working for agencies whose accounts today are some of the largest companies in the country and overseas.  Her print ads have appeared in major magazines and shopping malls nationwide.
She co-owned a magazine and designed/produced annual magazines for many Chambers of Commerce in South FL, illustrated a children’s book, painted murals, signs and even billboards! A stint in interior design in Broward & Palm Beach County expanded her design capabilities. 35 years later her art business experience includes just about every type of artwork imaginable in almost every media.

Lee has now come full circle. She continues to produce graphic design, but widowed and with the children grown, her focus is to begin once again to follow her dream to create fine art. After a nearly 30 year hiatus, she began painting daily in March 2011. Her work was then accepted for juried show just months later.
