This class will provide a unique opportunity to rethink our expectations of what it means to ‘see’. We will work on simplicity and making more powerful photographs, supporting the notion that a photograph is not ‘taken’ but made. Attention will be paid to lighting, composition, depth-of-field and exposure issues, but more importantly, you will practice using this information to make more powerful and meaningful images. Bring a sense of commitment (and sense of humor) and curiosity to class, as well as a few examples of recent work to the first session.

Deb LaFogg Docherty’s art combines her great two loves: her love of nature and her love of painting. Her paintings strive to give people a glimpse of how animals live in the wild, raise their young, court and survive. She paints a picture of a secret world that many never get a chance to see. Deb’s quest to paint wildlife has taken her across the United States from the Everglades National Park in Florida to Denali National Park in Alaska. It has become an adventure she loves to share.

Her formal training began in college with a dual major in illustration and commercial art. She has continued to advance her work through master artist workshops. It is from them that she began to not only focus on the wildlife, but on the landscape in which they live. The use of light, color, composition, texture, and atmosphere help bring the viewer into the secret world of nature. She is always learning new ways to communicate this through her work. Deb’s paintings come to life in pastels, acrylics and oils.

Deborah LaFogg Docherty Offers Two Day Workshop: “Expressing Your Inner Animal in Pastel”

Deborah LaFogg has gone from an “emerging” to one of National acclaim and is now offering a local workshop for artists at Hennevelt’s Gallery!  She is a busy woman!  We don’t state that lightly.  She is teaching classes, workshops, caring for family members, keeping watch over animals who wander into her yard or noticing an unusual butterfly  –  and she is always working at her artwork.  Her Facebook posts modestly share her most recent acceptances to National Exhibits as well as Awards. She honestly seems surprised that anyone pays attention to her work – but she is very wrong.  Through Deborah’s artistry, we see the true essence of the animals she captures in pastel and paint. We are lucky! The Rickie Report shares the details and a few photos of her award-winning artworks.  Sign up for her workshop before the spaces are taken! You are in for a treat! Future workshops and exhibits are listed here as well.
