Voted third best airport in the U.S. and sixth best in the world by Condé Nast, PBI (Palm Beach International Airport) has become a premiere venue to showcase quality, original artworks by Palm Beach County’s finest emerging and professional artists
ART AT THE AIRPORT SELLS!
As a major gateway to South Florida, Palm Beach International Airport receives an average of 500,000 travelers per month. Of local, national and international origin, travelers view and frequently purchase works featured in “Art at the Airport” exhibitions. In fact, in all but two of the twenty-four shows hosted during the past eight years, artwork sales have occurred. Artists keep 100% of income from sales. Additionally, artists receive commissions for new works from travelers who’ve seen “Art at the Airport” shows.
ARTWORK GUIDELINES
Artists canenter one original, 2- or 3- dimensional piece of artwork. All media welcome. All 2-dimensional artmust be wired across the back. Artwork not properly wired will not be accepted. Art can be either framed or unframed. If unframed, work must be finished on all sides. All 2-dimensional pieces must be a minimum size of 16” x 20” – this includes the artwork, mat and frame. All 3-dimensional art must have a pedestal and a Plexiglas cover if appropriate. Artist is responsible for installation of 3-dimensional works, in coordination with County staff.Giclée reproductions of paintings will not be accepted. Members and At-Large Members of the County’s Public Art Committee select artwork based on artistic merit.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: one entry per Artist
Submittal materials must be in our office by 4:00 p.m. on September 26, 2012. You can mail your submittal or deliver it in person to Palm Beach County Art in Public Places, attn: Art at the Airport, 2633 Vista Parkway, West Palm Beach, FL 33411-5603. See driving directions to our office below.
1) APPLICATION FEE – $20.00 –check or money order made out to Palm Beach County BCC
2) PHOTOGRAPH (no larger than 8½” x 11”) of proposed artwork. If proposed art is framed, please submit two photographs – a quality print of the artwork and a photo of artwork in its frame.
3) LABEL on the back of yoursubmittal photograph. Include your name, address, telephone number, email, website, artwork title, medium, dimensions, year completed and sale price. ALSO please describe how artwork is “finished” i.e. framed, gallery wrap, or other.
4) RESUME or BIO
5) SELF-ADDRESSED envelope with sufficient postage if you want your submittal materials returned.
ACCEPTED SUBMISSIONS
The exhibition runs October 24, 2012 – February 28, 2013 and is located on Level 2, across from Sam Snead’s restaurant and bar, the Visitor’s Lounge and mini putting green. Accepted artwork must be dropped off at the “Art at the Airport” exhibition area on Wednesday, October 24th 10:00 a.m. Art pick-up at the end of the show is Thursday February 28, 2013 at 9:00, at the airport exhibition area.
EXHIBITION & RECEPTION PROMOTION
Artists accepted into“Art at the Airport” exhibitions are featured on Palm Beach County’s Art in Public Places and the Palm Beach International Airport’s websites. In addition, the County’s Public Art Program broadly promotes “Art at the Airport” exhibitions and receptions to diverse media outlets and to the more than one thousand local artists and arts supporters in the County’s Artist Registry.

The unique vibe, stellar art and always interesting conversation make “Art at the Airport” receptions a not to miss happening. Date TBD – stay tuned.

From I-95 Exit 70 at Okeechobee Boulevard, head west on Okeechobee Boulevard, past Military Trail, Haverhill Road and the entrance to the Florida Turnpike (on your right). Continue west over the overpass to the next stoplight, Vista Parkway, and turn right. Continue for a few minutes then turn left at sign w/Palm Beach County OPERATIONS & SUPPORT CENTER, Vehicle Maintenance Facility, Facilities, Development & Operations -2633 Vista Parkway.
