Mail Art Wanted! World Wide Call to Artists!
The Rickie Report has heard of many events that promise not only interesting artwork but fun. LULA is putting out a world-wide call to artists for mail art – as in sending it through the postal system! We cannot wait to see what arrives in LULA’s mailbox. This is only one part of Lake Worth’s Centennial Celebration. Take part! Send art!
- The Rickie Report is including not only LULA’s Call to Artists, but some interesting facts about sending items through the postal system.
- Did you know you can mail anything that will take a stamp and weighs less than 13 ounces without a box?
- Whatever you mail in the United States must have the correct postage affixed to a durable material.
- If you are mailing something from another country, be sure to check prohibitions for sending certain types of things internationally (food or agricultural products)
- If mailing outside the US, please inquire about necessary forms (such as customs).
- Mailing any item that’s less than 108″ in combined length and girth doesn’t require a box or envelope. It’s a small fee (depending on the size) but the possibilities are endless.
- Please follow the postal regulations regarding non-perishable, hazardous, or breakable materials!
Let the Centenniel Celebration begin!
CALL TO ARTISTS:
LULA’s Global Mail Art Exhibition:
Lake Worth 100
Calligraphers and artists locally and from around the world are invited to participate in LULA’s Global Mail Art Exhibition: Lake Worth 100. Mail art is the most democratic form of fine art. The direct exchange of creative work is a worldwide cultural movement that began in the early 1960’s and involves sending visual art on envelopes through the international postal system.
Traveling the world through mail art can be a rewarding experience that operates within a spirit of “anything goes” which brings to the surface everybody’s creative side. Decorated envelopes are one-of-a-kind artworks with the handwritten address becoming part of the work. Please join LULA and send a decorated envelope as we celebrate Lake Worth’s Centennial.
Check List:
Date of submissions: July 18, 2012- January 18, 2013
Please use hand-executed calligraphy or artistic lettering to address your envelope. You may use paint, ink, colored pencil, rubberstamps, or other standard media for illustrations on your envelope. Be creative and decorate the front and the back of the envelope.
This exhibition is open to the public of all ages
Address the envelopes to: Lake Worth 100
