Scholarship Deadline and Call For Artists – Read Both! Respond!

The Wellington Art Society is currently accepting applications for its one-time $500 to $1,000 college art scholarships for graduating seniors who live in or attend high school in Palm Beach County.  Deadline: 4/15/12!!!!!!

The scholarship is available to students planning a college major in visual arts at either a 2 or 4-year institution. Applications may be obtained from their school art teachers or from the Wellington Art Society by contacting Suzanne Redmond at

Requirements for the scholarship are as follows: Students must reside in or attend high school in Palm Beach County. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in visual arts and an overall GPA of 2.0. Three art classes in high school must have been completed. An artist’s statement and career goal must be submitted along with 7-10 photographs for viewing, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, and the last report card of the student.

The application package for the scholarship is due April 15, 2012 and should be sent to the Wellington Art Society, P.O. Box 212943, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33421-2943.

The Wellington Art Society Scholarship, established in 2001, has provided 21 talented young artists with funds for their art-related expenses such as art/photographic supplies and books or tuition for visual art classes. Proceeds from the Art Society’s annual art exhibitions and sales, such as the Fall Fling and Whole Foods Market Art Shows, support the scholarship fund and its other programs.

The Big Top “On The Ave”

Thursday, May 17, 2012

6:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Set up at 4:30/ 5 pm


Artists keep 100% of sales.  Artwork must remain on exhibition from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.


Artists must enter three original pieces (or 3 small series of paintings). The artwork must fit into a 10’ by 10’ tent and/or a 4’ ft wide by 8’ ft high wall.  Artwork must be a minimum of 24” on all sides. We provide tents and walls.  The artwork submitted will be the artwork displayed if selected.   Sculpture is displayed in a tent without walls.   Artists are responsible for providing pedestals if needed and for bringing all material and tools necessary for hanging your own art. –wire hanging backs are preferred, and bring appropriate weight hanging hooks for each piece.


Materials must be submitted electronically by 5:00 p.m. on or before Friday, April 30, 2012.


Delray Beach Art Committee selects the finalists. Artists will be notified by Friday, May 4, 2012.

Best in Show, Judge’s Choice and Honorable Mention will be awarded.  The chosen art pieces will be tagged by a certificate in the first hour.  The winner of the “Best in Show” will be part of a group show during the summer of 2012 (date and location to be determined.)

The Big Top “On The Ave”, May 17th is the fifth in a series of six events held each year in Downtown Delray Beach each year.   The theme of the event will be “The Big Top” (Circus) Any artwork inspired by the circus is encouraged, but not required.   Artists should expect their work to be viewed by 15,000 to 30,000 attendees.  For those artists who are immediate family or business partners of members of the Delray Beach Marketing Cooperative are NOT eligible.
